The road to Mallaig from Fort William offers plenty of potential

Some spectacular night shots of the grass fires at present!!

Here's an image showing the effect that the heather fire smoke is having on the sunsets at the moment. This shot was taken at Ord, which is one of my favourite local photographic spots on the Isle of Skye and just around the corner from where I live  :)

Thanks all for the recommendations.
Finally got the itinerary.

Will be within an hour of EDI for 5 days.
Will be playing at Archerfield, Gullane, Muirfield, St. Andrews. (Golf)

I will also have 2 days before and after the golf outing for other stuff (photos)
I have a feeling that renting a car is essential in this case?

Those locations are all close to the coast of south-east Scotland but a long way from the Highlands and Islands.

On your golf days, you will probably have time to sneak away and photograph the fishing villages and harbours of the Fife and East Lothian coasts.

Yes, a car will be pretty well essential. My suggestion would be that, for the two days before the golf, drive up through Glencoe and over-night in or near Fort William. For the two days after the golf, drive up the A9 and branch off to the Cairngorms and maybe the Moray coast, perhaps over-nighting in Grantown-on-Spey.

But don't spend too much time driving the car and too little clicking the shutter.

Hi,

Not sure yet were in Scotland you are going but if down near the west of the central belt then let me know as I know of a few ruined castles worth visiting like Kilchurn castle near Inveraray (also has its own castle and old jail house), castle Lachlan at strathlachlan which is also next to an excellent place to eat called inver cottage, you can then drive past there to otter ferry, tighnabruaich and then on to a viewpoint over the kyles of bute.

If you are in this area, all these places can be visited in an afternoon but there are numerous other places to see in that area like Arrochar and the Arrochar alps, rest and be thankfull, an early morning drive down loch eck which can be truly spectacular.

Cheers, John

Since I'll be near Edinburgh for a good 5 days, I will just use my off free time to take photos near them as the opportunity arises.
I'm now thinking of taking 3 and half days at the end of my trip and going up near Fort William and seeing Eilean Donan Castle, kilchurn and the area around there as my main focus.  Should I devote 3 days around here or can I make my way to Isle of Skye and Inverness as well?

If you are at Eilean Donan, you are only 15 minutes away from the Skye Bridge, so it would seem a shame not to drive over and spend at least a few hours on the island (but don't hope to see anything like it all in that time).
