astonishing" ACR now supports 429 different camera models. Wow.

Not for nothing but Russell Brown asked me about when Photoshop 1.0 shipped in the lead up to Photoshop's 20th birthday. Nobody at Adobe knew when Photoshop 1.0 shipped (which isn't really all that surprising). I told Russell Feb, 1990...then he asked what day and I said I had no clue. So I emailed Thomas Knoll and asked him...he looked at a 1990 calendar and decided it must have been Feb 19th (since that was a Mon and back then, Adobe released software on the 1st biz day after weekends).

So I told Russell, Feb 19th, 1990...

Now, while Russell was asking about Photoshop, not Camera Raw, I thought back and remembered when ACR 1.0 was released...it was at Photoshop World LA...and the keynote was on Feb 19th, 2003 (I was there for the release).

I though further and remembered where I was when Lightroom 1.0 was released...Mike and I were in Antarctica with Seth, JP Caponigro and Bill Atkinson on a Zodiak cruise that day....we even taped a birthday video that day congratulating LR 1.0 for shipping...guess what...it was Feb 19th, 2007. I still have the birthday cruise movie if you are interested. Click HERE to see the 1.0 birthday movie...you'll need Quicktime...note, this is the edited version where penguin squawks substituted for Seth and I swearing...(seem Adobe didn't like how many times Seth and I said F$%&K).

I emailed a bunch of my Adobe friends and said, heh, Feb 19th really means something in the history of digital imaging...I meant Photoshop, 02-19-1990, ACR 02-19-2003 and LR 02-19-2007..I mean, this must mean something...

Turns out, 02-19-xxxx is a total coincidence...it would be unfair to accuse Adobe of the skills and intelligence to actually engage in any sort of sustained conspiracy...conspiracy implies a degree of intelligence not found at Adobe...

It is, what it is...but personally I took a moment to reflect and thank Thomas for his efforts on 02.19.1990, 2003 and 2007. It would not have happened without him. Ya know?

Pretty cool to have seen all this stuff up close and personal...

:~)

Really, if you haven't seen this vid...it's pretty funny. We all went out on a special cruise to shoot this and then spent some time in the bar (with libations of course) to tape the 2nd segments...Chris was the one who came up with the penguin squawks which actually made the whole thing better...and no, my fart did NOT cause the glacier to calve...just saying. (it was special effects, ya know!!!)

Photoshop, I'm told, has turned to a life of drugs and crime.  He may not make it to his 24th birthday.
