RZ67 II Winder and PhaseOne H20 Back
« on: February 18, 2013, 09:00:43 pm »

Hello,

This is some of my initial experience with setting up an RZ and H20 as well as a question in regards to Winder usage with H20... as info has been limited, thought I'd share and ask for help.

I just picked up an RZ system with a Phase H20 back and have been getting great results with it...

My RZ67 is the II version and not IID... I did have issues initially with cable configuration from the RZ to the PhaseRZ adapter plate, which gave me black exposures initially... the connection to camera was in upside down (lock switch was upward facing in left front connection socket) when it should have been inserted facing downward...

Also took some monkeying around with different cables to figure out proper configuration (which ended up being PC to PC connection and *NOT* PC to mini). It was PC terminal on Lens to PC terminal on bottom left corner of adapter plate AND NO CONNECTION TO BACK ITSELF.

I had a variety of different cables but no clear instructions... I then connected strobes via PC sync cable on rear left side of H20 back (F) to Profoto strobes.

It's been working great, using the latest Capture 7 software....

However, I just introduced the RZ Winder II to the equation and now that is giving me grief... So my question is, is using the RZ winder compatible while using the H20 back to capture...?

I turn on Winder, press start... it advances, engages mechanism... I fire shot, winder doesn't advance... and can't manually advance as all is locked up.

After about 30+ secs maybe I get a long beep that sounds like it's coming from winder...

So after spending half a day messing with this, I just removed winder and have have had no problems.

Anyone else had similar issues or know some secret handshake to get the RZ Winder to work with H20 setup? Info is hard to come by for this old beast.

I've scoured Google and come up empty handed...

Thanks for any help, tips, tricks.

Cheers,
Jonny

Hi Jonny,

I have a Mamiya RZProIID with a winder which is never removed. The back I use is a Leaf Aptus 75 which I connect to the lens sync with a cable.

I have never had the problem you seem to have. The 30+ thing is a safety mechanism the camera has to stop the camera from draining the battery. It some times happens if the mount on the side of the lens where a cable release can attach has not been screwed back into the lens flush properly.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
