You know Russ, since you are such a stickler for a proper taxonomy, why don't you post this in the Wildlife thread we have, you know?  :P After all, there is no ambiguity here... a fox is a fox is a fox!

Probably a good idea, Slobodan, but this is in downtown Colorado Springs -- not exactly wild.

The general rule of thumb is that if you see a fox, it's a fox that's extremely comfortable with people. If the fox doesn't want to be seen, you don't see it, and most foxes don't want to be seen. I guessed either domesticated or urban!

This guy's urban, Andrew. He hangs out downtown. There's enough wild stuff around this area that he has a hunting ground. I've seen him more than once. Downtown in Colorado Springs isn't like downtown in New York (thank Heaven).

Why does a fox cross the street?

Because he has rabies?

After sixteen years doing rabies research I can say with some qualification that this one looks pretty healthy.  And yes, there are likely foxes in downtown NYC.  And coyotes.  I wish I had a $1 for every time we received a phone call from someone who bought a house in a new suburb with a nice ravine lot and they now had foxes/skunks/raccoons/deer... in their backyard and they wanted someone to come and get rid of them.  Oh well.

Anyway, it does have a fox, but it also has a street, and since the question of why the fox is crossing the street remains unanswered, I guess that makes it street photography.   :-\

Why does a fox cross the street?

Because it was too lazy to jump over the quick brown dog?
