Recommendation for good budget paper in the UK
« on: February 14, 2013, 06:33:02 am »

For the last few years I've been using Jessops own brand gloss as a decent budget printing paper for testing and more 'casual' printing. Now, unfortunately, that's unavailable :(

To save having to trawl through dozens of cheap papers, can anyone recommend a similar decent budget paper easily available in the UK ?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a Costco membership card? Kirkland Signature Photo Glossy.

Might want to look over this site, used several times for budget papers.

The Kirkland glossy is my fave. Rumoured to be Ilford mfg.

Rumors could be verified (to some extent) if I could measure the spectral reflectance of samples from Costco, Jessops, Inkpress, Calumet etc. Just an envelop with some paper samples carefully packed and their description written down. Mail address is on my site.

Thanks to those who replied.
Costco isn't really an option, but the link to Opus was interesting. I hadn't realised that Olmec was freely available again after it's past difficulties in distribution.
After some searching, the best bet looks to be using Olmec gloss at 22p/A4 sheet. It's cheap enough not to fret about when using for testing, but still good enough for decent prints.
Silverprint sell it at a better price than Opus and they're a company I'm happy to support with my money.

Ernst,

I'll see if I can get a sample out to you when I'm back from my next photo trip.
