River Moods 3
« on: February 10, 2013, 06:02:27 pm »

This is a third installment of a Moods of the River series that I have been working on.  These are mostly about tonality and motion.

Thanks for looking in.

The first is a very pleasing abstract. I'm less convinced by the other two.

My sentiments, exactly.  The first is a powerful statement about the energy of the water, which is probably what you felt as you looked through the viewfinder.

Another vote for the first. It has a convincing rightness to it in all respects.
In the second I find the tonal range less pleasing, and a bit harsh. The third is nice, but the rock and the water seem to be saying different things.

The first is a real keeper.

Have to agree with the others. #1 is #1.

The first image has a lyrical feel to it; very nice.  Have you considered cropping out the left third of the second image?

All good but #1 really draws me in. Nice detail in the water. And the spurt gives a focal point.

First works also for me and I'm not as thrilled by the two others.

Thanks much for the comments.  We have a consensus for #1 - a bit of a rarity.

I am actually drawn a bit more to #2.  It is less together, harsher and a little more complex than #1.  Maybe that's why I like it.  That's a bit of a scary thought.

As is, I would also say #1 seems leaves the most perfect impression.

However, I think I would like #3 much more if you left of more of the upper section. The one larger rock up with its top cut off makes me feel uneasy, and the still water in the upper right corner is very static compared to the rest.

I really like the big rock with the ice formation and the shape of the water flow around it. I would be tempted to crop the upper fifth or so off if it still makes sense as a composition, and you have enough resolution to spare.
