Premium Lustre Profiles
« on: January 31, 2013, 09:36:28 am »

I've started downloading some profiles for the Epson papers that I often use but under the 9900 listing, I can't find a profile for the Premium Lustre.  Will the ones I've already downloaded for the 4900 work.. or where do I find the ones for the 9900.  I also need the Enhanced Matte profile but can't find it on the Epson site either.

Mike, I'm on the road now (don't have access to my printer) but they should already be there once you load the driver. Epson has changed some of the paper names so it may not be as intuitive. Luster I believe is Ultra Premium Photo Luster, I think the Enhanced is now Presentation Paper (I'm sure I'll be corrected if wrong).

Should have been installed with the driver itself. On a Mac? Check the ColorSync utility.

Epson was cranking out huge Premium Luster prints at a trade show last Monday.  It may have a dirtball reputation, but for about $1 per square foot you get a heck of a lot of eye-popping pzazz.  Saturated Red motorcycle floating in an ocean of DMax Black.  Right there on the floor, kinks and footprints included at no extra charge.

Finally got the printer hooked up (had to bring a tech in to run some ethernet through the building) and installed the software, so yes, Premium Lustre is now there - sorry guys, just jumping the gun before finishing.

However, now I'm loading a couple of other profiles, Enhanced Matte, no problem, but when I got to the Cold Press Natural I have a few options.  In anticipation of receiving the printer I downloaded the profiles for CPN from the website and got two:

SP7900 9900 CPNWFAP MK 1440 v1
SP7900 9900 CPNWFAP MK 2880 v1

and with the software install got: Epson_SP7900_9900_Cold_Press_Natural_MK_v1

What's the difference?

A lot of Epson profiles are like that.  One is for "1440 resolution" the other is for 2880.  On my 9880 you could see the difference on extremely smooth papers like EHM and similar sharp-as-a-tack smooth surfaces.

Cold press surfaces have some texture that slightly kills detail, so I imagine that Epson decided to opt for a one-size-fits-all profile which probably assumes 1440 resolution.
