Colour OR B&W
« on: January 31, 2013, 12:43:51 am »

A actual digital shot -- from a few years ago .. I used a EOS 20d because it offered a B&W parameter.. so the screen could be void of color ...

The B&W comes off better than the color version, but there's no there there.

I think you would need a schooner or some kind of sail boat near the horizon as a focal point to make this an acceptable image. To make the rocks a focal point you would need to have shot closer and low down.

The B&W version is more dramatic but the color version has nice soft colors. In the end, I'd choose the B&W by a very small margin.

I think the B&W holds slightly more appeal for me mainly because the water is more interesting swirling around the rocks

Was that taken from Carmel River Beach looking south towards Point Lobos?

I was taking a student out to shoot >> I really have not shot at this point for probably 10 years or more ...you know you pass it every few days & never see a fresh image  :)

Ah.  That's why it looks so much closer than it would from River Beach.

I think as composed it suffers from being a bit cliched. A very common, standard view seen many times. However, I noticed in the color image a orange spot. You might recompose the whole thing to make some use of that in a more "unusual" composition.
