Installing Xrite-DTP94 on Windows 7 64 Pro
« on: January 14, 2013, 09:56:06 pm »

Hi Folks,

I'm not sure if this topic has been brought up formerly but I couldn't find a thread reference to my topic.

I have an NEC Spectraview 2090 UXi connected to a Win 7 64 Pro PC that I want to calibrate using Spectraview II software and Xrite DTP94.

Unfortunately Xrite doesn't seem to produce a 64 bit device driver for Win 7.

I'm wondering if I created a virtual PC session for Windows XP would that work to install and load the device driver to allow creation of an ICC profile for the monitor which I could use during normal Win 7 64 bootup.

I suppose the answer is to try that approach but I'm just curious to see if anyone else has solved this problem before.

Thanks,

Don Bryant

In your shoes, I'd be giving it a try.

First issue is to figure out of your VM can truly send the full bit depth to your monitor.  In my VMWare workstation, my Windows 7 VM's report 32-bit color, but who knows if there's some dumbing-down emulation going on.  There was in the past when using remote desktop, but I think that may have been changed along the way.

Anyways, I'd probably make a file of a few patches of colors one value off from each other.  {0/0/0, 0/0/1, 255/255/255, 255/255/254, etc}  Make sure your monitor shows the difference in your host OS, then check in the VM.

Second issue is what happens if a LUT loader is used in the VM.  No guess here.

Third, you might be able to easily get an ICC profile out of the VM.  But, if your software uses a LUT loader on startup, you'll have to figure out where the LUT data is stored in the VM, figure out how to transfer it over, and get the LUT loader to start up and use it.  If you can't get this to work, you could always make a profile not using LUT's.  :(

That would circumvent the use of Spectraview software which is integral to the NEC display.

You might to go here and try this procedure that worked for me.  I have the OptiXR with DTP94, from my earlier days, and Win 7 64 Pro, and it works fine with Spectraview and my PA241W.

Well I could never get the driver to install. So I guess I'll start looking for a new colorimeter.

Thanks,
