Bizarre HP Z3100 problem! Help!
« on: January 12, 2013, 09:58:41 am »

Here's one for the books!  I've been printing fine and now, all of a sudden, I print a test strip and it looks great, but when I printout the full size print, it comes out faded!  I'm totally baffled!  I've repeated this at least 3 times, same settings with the same results.  I've rebooted and reset... I'm at the end of my rope!  Any ideas?  Thanks!

The first test is to see if the problem is due to the source image or something else. Try printing from a different source image and see if the problem duplicates.

Tried a full reboot of the printer?

Thanks for your replies!  I'm in the midst of a personal problem at the moment and will try your suggestions this evening... btw, it's a roll and only goes in one way... but thanks just the same!

Unfortunately, none of your suggestions have produced any change, but it prompted me to look closer at my settings. I noticed in the Photoshop (CS6) print dialog box, under "Paper/Quality", the "Paper Type" says "Any", and scrolling down, the Custom Paper list is empty (although the "Loaded Paper" is correct), which is odd. Then I remembered I had updated my Macs OS last week from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2... the only "change" since I printed last... w/o any problems!

As soon as I re-install the old print drivers, I'll let you know if that's the problem.  As always, this forum is a great resource! The willingness of it's members sharing their vast knowledge and experience is greatly appreciated... thanks again for all of your help!
