Authorized service centers for Nikon
« on: January 11, 2013, 08:34:25 pm »

G'day folks,

Just wanted your thoughts on this: I have a couple of cameras, a D200 and a D300. The D300 is missing the small plastic part that "covers" the hoop through which you would sling the camera strap on one side. I called Nikon support and they suggested that I send my camera in for general/sensor cleaning to the nearest authorized service center. When the center performs the service they will also replace the missing parts, fine tune the camera settings, update the firmware if necessary etc., is what I've been told.

Having said that, is there really any difference between sending my camera off to an authorized service center vs. sending it to either Melville or El Segundo Nikon service centers? Will the authorized service centers have personnel that will do as good a job as would a Nikon technician?

Along this line of discussion, have any of you used the services of Peachtree Camera in Marietta, GA? What are your thoughts about these folks?

I'd appreciate it if you can share some of your experiences.

Many thanks!

Personally I don't mess about and just send them off to Nikon IF they need service....My D700 went once, My D3s went once, and my D4 hasn't gone at all.

I have looked there and the part is so small that I can't even locate it on that website. When I spoke with tech support, even they couldn't locate the part. So I'll probably have to send the cameras in to get them serviced.

How long did it take for the entire process, from the time you shipped the cameras till you received them?

Thanks for posting!
