Camera generating the most enthusiasm in 2012
« on: December 28, 2012, 02:28:39 pm »

It's the time of year for polls on "the best camera of the year", that really measure which cameras have generated the most enthusiasm amongst photographers who hangout on internet forums. With that caveat, there are some clear results, rather different than in previous years. Whether you look at
http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/12/21/best-camera-2012-poll
or
http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/special/20121221_579830.html
a few results are consistent:
- the leaders amongst "system cameras" are the Olympus E-M5 and Nikon D800(E)
- the leaders amongst fixed lens cameras are the Sony RX100 and RX1.

Not quite the usual suspects as far as brand names go!

Nope; I'd have voted for any cellphone camera. Ubiquitous, and possibly the greatest volume seller in any year ever.

I have no data - just gut-instinct guess!

Most surprising cult camera: Sigma DP2/1 Merrills.

In case there was any misunderstanding, the oddity is "Olympus in, Canon out", not Nikon or Sony's presence.

Another pattern: Sony probably has a hand in all of these cameras' sensors, though there is still some ambiguity in the case of the E-M5.
