Better for monitors: colorimeter or spectrophotometer?
« on: December 18, 2012, 02:55:32 PM »

I have an X-Rite i1Display Pro now and I plan to get an i1Photo Pro 2 in the new year. I understand that the former is a colorimeter and the latter is a spectrophotometer. I read somewhere that colorimeters are more accurate for monitors and spectrophotometers are more accurate for prints. Is that correct?

The names of the products are damn confusing!

There's a new Colorimeter and new Spectrophotometer. The i1Display-Pro and similar looking items** are the Colorimeter. The i1Pro is the Spectrophotometer.

Am I correct that for the monitor I should continue to use the colorimeter, and use the spectrophotometer just for prints?

Ideally (if budget permits), yes.
