Great Ridge....again
« on: December 10, 2012, 11:03:48 am »

As my previous Great Ridge shot (Winter light ...peak district) seems to have generated a bit of interest in this great if little National Park (the first in UK i think )...thought id share this one i made from winter 2011/12...a blazing dawn to my right gives the scene its wonderful red/orange hues....ive also converted this one, but i like the colours here.

Shaun,
You seem to have a good eye with fences and drystone walls… The colors are fantastic!

Bravo

I first saw this one on OutdoorsMagic, and was impressed then with the light & how it had been handled. Seeing it again now doesn't change my mind. It's still a lovely shot.

Overheard art collector at opening..."Don't bring me any snow scenes without yellow, orange, or red in them.  Brrr!"  So good work in that genre, and a nice shot by any measure!   :)

Francois bill, Eric, Tony and bill t...thanks all very much appreciated. bill you mention you saw this on OM...this scene or actually this image? i think i may have posted some stuff on there a while ago, of course this scene/location is very very popular with relatively easy access, i dumped into a guy on the ridge that morning another togger who,s since become a Flickr contact i know Harsharn got a very similar shot.

I had to go to your flickr page and put it on black to really appreciate the subtleties of the colors in the clouds. Very nice, indeed!

If it wasn't this shot, it looked very much like it. A little while ago now though

Very nice compositional element in the sinuous line across the scene and on to the horizon defined first by the fence and then the path.  Strong suggestion of depth and movement from that, stronger than you can easily get from classical perspective shapes and volumes.  Have come back to look at this a few times, very memorable image.

Wonderful light and composition. For me, the only drawback are the footprints in the snow.

Cheers Paula...re the foot prints, I dare say fresh pristine snow might have been slightly more appealing...but iam not too put out by the foot prints.
