Just a test.

Converted 5058 by fiftyonepointsix, on Flickr

I got my FORTRAN code to process M Monochrom files, use a Gamma function to convert to 16-bits. Modifies the DNG image header to make White= 65535, 16-bits, then uses a Gamma function to stretch the histogram. Still playing. Started writing the software on Wednesday.

I got my FORTRAN code to process M Monochrom files…

Now there's a blast from the past! I don't think I've used FORTRAN since c. 1978 when I wrote a drag-racing simulator that ran on an IBM 1130 "mini" computer. Lotsa fun adding & tweaking parameters. That was a whole different world…

;D Wow!! FORTRAN that IS a blast from the past. Am so..o glad you have managed to put it in good use. Wait till I tell my Tech wizard of a son @ this.  BTW. Image looks great too, I'd post but I shoot with M(240), though B&W conversion are equally great but MM @ high ISO is incredible & that is from a guy who just sold all his Nikon D800e gear and Zeiss lens.

I've worked with Fortran for 40 years. I love it. I write code for embedded processors in Fortran and Assembly. I worked with digital imagers in the 1980s, when they were still in the research lab. I modified software written in the 1980s to process the Leica DNG files.

This image is from the M9, converted to Monochrome Linear DNG:

100% crop:

I did a custom Demosaic algorithm, optimized for using the color camera with a Yellow filter.

Your results look really good. Well worth continuing with your project IMO. Just had a look…I had no idea there were so many FORTRAN compilers around.  :)  Might have to get ahold of one so I can play a bit. Forward into the past!

And this reminds me...

Allen, in the second picture in your last set: Why does the girl have a 5.25" floppy diskette? I have a floppy drive if she needs to have it read. I was able to read some 30 year old diskettes this past year.

Brian, I have no idea. She was in a cafe window and I thought she and what she was doing looked interesting. She never eve realized I took the photograph.

Brian,

Nice, but in my view Silver eFex2 makes the bokeh look ugly on this one. It goes a good job in the canon through.

Cheers,
Bernard

I agree!

I'm having a fun time playing with the images. LR6 and Silver Efex 2 is fine with my Fortran output files.
