Allen,

I am going to work hard to catch up with you.

I love the white flower.

Did you ever use the Whitewall service for printing?

Thanks and no I haven't tried them. I print everything myself. I have an Epson 2880 (13 X 19) and I really like Epson Exhibition Fiber paper.

The one advantage of a monochrome camera is it makes you shoot black and white.

We're in this period where most young photographers think shooting black and white is just a filter change though prior to digital when we shot black and white film, your brain went to black and white, you thought in black and white, light and tone, composition and never had the thought of color to get in the way.

But then again we didn't have a device that did both easily.

IMO

The DPMerrills Cameras work in this way . This is the only camera I know who shoot direct B&W RAW with the MM, not the same way of interpretation but you still can frame your shoot directly in B&W. Just need the correct finder and the sensations are here, not really like RF cam but the results ...

You can shoot in monochrome with an EVF camera and get monochrome in the viewfinder, which is very handy. But of course the mono image is derived from a Bayer matrix-filtered original, so there's a degree of tonal compromise involved. (Thus the appeal of the MM!) Unless, that is, you shoot infrared through a filter that cuts off deep enough into the IR spectrum to neutralize the Bayer filters.

The Nikkor-SC 5cm F1.5 on the M Monochrom, wide-open. There were about 300 of these made in Leica mount, maybe another 500 in S-Mount. David Douglas Duncan used one like this in Korea, for "This is War".

Wide-Open at the Marine Museum in Quantico, VA.

and at F4:

I've looked for one of these for almost 20 years, this one was a bit of an Ebay gamble. Seller was not a camera dealer, the pictures on the auction were awful. Turns out, her description of "Crystal Clear" is the same as mine.

I did some further reading on the lens, put together an article on it.

Thanks Dave wish more people were contributing though. It is an amazing camera. The more I use it the deeper I fall for it. Its been a really, really long time that I've felt this was about equipment. I think the last time was in the mid 1980s when I bought my Hasselblads.

Congratulations, Allen!

IMHO, yours is more interesting than any of the other M of E winners (and they are a pretty good bunch).
