Can HP Z3200 Paper Presets Be Renamed / Edited?
« on: November 13, 2012, 04:50:20 am »

With apologies to anyone who has already seen this question on the Yahoo Wide inkjet list:

Having just bought a z3200 to replace my aging z3100 I'm dialling in all my non
HP papers. I have often thought it would be useful to use the same paper preset
(oms file) for more than one paper. For example, I use a lot of Innova Smooth
Cotton in both High White and Natural White. Innova provide a preset for the
Natural White only but it is also great starting point for a High White
calibration & profile. I'd like to be able to use the preset for both varieties
of paper but can only load it once - to use it for both I would have to
recalibrate the paper every time I changed from one to the other. Ideally I'd
like to install the same preset again with a different name, similarly there are
a number of other HP presets that I'd like to copy and rename for use with other
papers. Any ideas?

Thanks, William.

Maybe I don't understand. Can't you accomplish this by just renaming the preset before you load it?

Well maybe but I don't think so - the presets are in the form of .oms "packages" which contain thickness, drying time, ink limits, icc profile, and the paper name that will display in the printer's on board paper list. This name is different from the name of the .oms file so I don't think changing the name of the oms will work. Also, I'm nervous about experimenting because last Christmas I loaded an oms file provided by a big name paper manufacturer and it corrupted the firmware on my old z3100 so severely that I had to have the formatter replaced. Twice. I think the presets are created using the Designjet Media Management SDK and I think this is probably what you need to do anything at all with them but information on SDK is hard to find.
