What is your opinion about the Sigma 10mm-20mm lens?
« on: November 12, 2012, 08:15:58 pm »

I am looking into purchasing the Sigma 10mm-20mm lens and I am just wondering what other people thought about this lens. I am using a Canon 60D as a camera body, and I am just in the market for a wide angle lens. Please let me know all the goods and the bads!! lol

Hello,

Attached are some links you might like to look at.

As a Tokina user for decades my pick would definitely be the Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX .

Cheers

As an owner of the lens in question I have always thought that it was a bit soft.
This was especially true around the edges.
Depending on the subject of your photography that may not matter.

If your budget and style of photography allows it consider the 17mm or 24mm TS lenses from Canon - both these lenses are truly superb. The Canon 24mm f1.4 is also an absolute joy to use.
As for the Tokina alternative I have absolutely no experience with it.

I used this lens on a Nikon D80 and was pleased with it.

There are two 10-20mm Sigma lenses. The more expensive one has a fixed maximum aperture of f/3.5 while the less expensive one is variable according to focal length.

I used the cheaper one on a Nikon D300 and found it excellent. As I used it mainly for landscapes, the slightly slower maximum aperture did not really matter as I tended to shoot at between f/8 and f/11.
