The AFi might work today, but I bought it at Photokina 2008 (september), got it three weeks later  and by April the following year it still didn't work. If three trips to Leaf didn't cure the problem, that sensor, screen and AF didn't align, how am I expected to do this on my own?
The adapter plate for the Linhof wasn't delivered as promised right after Photokina, but three months later. I shelled out nearly 40.000€ for the whole system, but I couldn't earn one Cent with it. Some people buy cameras for fun, I do too, but my professional tools have to give me return, otherwise my business go bust.

Waiting for Nikon to possibly change the live view in a future upgrade doesn't make me jump to buy it now.Once they manage, I might reconsider. But as they still not support MacOS 10.8.after half a year after the first betas ( Canon just managed now, xrite is still scratching their back) How can I expect them to handle that soon? The cost for one day of commercial production runs about 6-10.000€ including retouching. Neither me nor my clients can afford to slow down due to the camera.

Probox:

Striplight:

Both great tools, very precise, but different uses.

Just a thought, as I shoot Canon and not Nikon, but would Helicon Remote work for your live view shooting with the Nikon?

All the best,

with the current firmware it is a camera problem where software can't help. so no d800e for my line of work right now.

I just ordered a Hartblei 80mm. should improve a bit over the 90 tse

If you ever actually get one, they're perpetually back ordered, please post back and let us know if you think it's a significant improvement.

The T-SE 90 is a great lens, at €3300 euros +vat (4x the canon) the Hartblei should be amazing.
Be interested to see the results.

The Hartblei lenses are not back ordered, but rather made to order....

The Tse90 is a great lens at regular distances, but it is loosing it at closer distances, in my opinion. and the fixed angle betwen tilt and shift is very annoying.

The nice thing about expensive lenses is usually their resale value. even after years they don't lose a lot.

I sold Leica lenses after many years of use for more than what I bought them for, meanwhile making money with them. the same goes for profoto stuff. care for your equipment and the yearly increase in prices counteract the resale loss.

I think your case was unusual and sorry to read about it.  The AF focus offset calibration routine has been posted to LuLa for more precise AF and AF confirmation and I can tell anyone how to adjust their focus screen if it were needed.  I don't think that is common though.

Sounds like you have been happy with the 5d2 and tse 90 except for the resolution? One can change the lens to have shift and tilt in the same axis or opposed.

I tested the d800e and it's quite nice for detail, but only luminous detail not color detail. Still it requires good lenses which is why I suggested the zork or cambo x-2 or view cam adapter.

I am sure the AFi no works for some people, but at the time when it went to the market its wasn't. I am tired of not kept promises. I am only buying equipment when I know that it works NOW for me, not in half a year or ever. Recently I bought the Sony FS700 and it is working like a charm, doing exactly for me what I bought it for, but people keep on complaining that the promised raw 4k is  not available yet and it looks like it won't be before next spring. That seems to be common practise now, but as I am lelying on my gear to make a living, I only use what works.

I changed the T/S direction on my 90 many times, I even considered buying a secon one only not to have to fumble with screws while shooting.
but what is sorely missed is the ability to do free rotation. very often, when i shoot a deep dish  I would love to have the lens shifted downwards and have a 45° tilt on it. not possible with the Canon.

another nice feature is the lens clamp of the hartblei, so the sensor/camera tilts and not the lens, so no recomposing necessary after change of tilt.

Apparently I then misunderstood the following statement from their price list.

"Super-Rotator lenses are out of stock...please, don't ask about availability..."

Hi,

That was hartblei.com in the Ukraine. There is a Hartblei.de in Germany cooperating with Zeiss.

Best regards
