Migrating from an older to new computer.
« on: November 10, 2012, 05:56:38 pm »

I have an 8 year old MAC G5 that is painfully slow are photoshop. It does however have my HPZ3200 software as well as software for my IQ3 smart scanner. If i buy a new 12 core mac computer can i simply move all my photoshop and HP files to the new computer and use my old computer for scanning only? Is it as simple as moving files or will i be required to load everything from scratch to the new MAC?

The OSX Migrate tool is painless, everything just moves.

The Migration Assistant is great, but you need to make sure all your software is capable of running on Intel processors. Any old PPC only apps won't run on a new machine.

You'll also need to check that drivers for the hardware are available for the new OS

It still migrates fine, you have to upgrade anything regardless of the migration method.
