I would dearly like to have the Zeiss 35mm f2 for my D800, but it is beyond my reach right now.  Any opinions on the Nikkor 35mm f2 AIs vs the 35mm f2 D as an interim substitute?  It think the main issue would be how they stack up in the corners; AF vs MF is not really a factor for me.  My subject matter is urban landscape, I almost invariably shoot at f5.6 or f8.

BTW, I tried my Micro Nikkor 55mm f2.8 AIs (which has been gathering dust on the shelf with my F3HP) on the D800.  What a pleasure to have real helical manual focus instead of mushy focus-by-wire.

Thanks

I have found the 35mm nikkor not bad at all.. ( on a d800e)
d2 is not so good ..  use 2,8
for the extreme corners go to d8-11
very good contrast in the pictures

a very good alternative maybe is the manual focus samyang 1,4 35mm

have not had the pleasure to use it myself, but i read very positive reviews

I would go for the Ais over the D. I had a D on a D200 and wasn't impressed.

The Voigtlander 40/2 Ultron AiS (a pancake) is another option (very sharp, smooth action) if you can live with the extra 10mm. Have used on 1Ds2, D3S, etc, and have seen strong reviews on D800 use.

This option maybe too expensive but the Zeiss 35 f1.4 is the best 35mm  that Ive used on a DSLR. I use to own the Zeiss 35/2 which was very nice but the f1.4 is amazing.
