Adobe Lens Profile creator
« on: October 17, 2012, 07:49:27 am »

Just used this for the first time and it's all pretty straight forward....until you save the profile.

It doesn't appear to save the file to the correct folder as it can't be seen in LR4.2. On further investigation it seems there's about three different folders on my PC (Win 7 64bt) where lens profiles are stored.

Any idea exactly where it should go ?
Why are there so many different places these files get put ? it would seem more sensible to just have a single location for them.

As the PDF says on page 19:

Placing the LCP File In the CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0 Folder
a.   For Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\(User Name)\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0

b.   For Windows Vista or Windows 7:
C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0 C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0

c.   For Mac:
/Users/(User Name)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0

You may choose this path as the default path to save your generated profiles. Placing the files in this path allows the LCP files to be automatically read by the Photoshop Lens Correction plug-in.

The reason there are two options is if you choose the User Name option, the profile will only be available for that user. If you use the non-user specific location the profile will be available for all users.

Yes, Jeff I've read that and they are there, but LR4.2 isn't offering them as an option.

I've even tried copying them to the four other places on the system the lcp files seem to end up without any luck.

ALPC didn't report any errors when building the profile.

Is it possible that having more than one profile for the same lens*, even though they're named differently ?

I'm profiling a Samyang 14mm manual lens, there needs to be radically different vignetting correction for different apertures. As it's all manual there's no way the EXIF data for any auto correction will work.

What's now bizarre is that I've deleted all the profiles for the Samyang lens from the folders*, but LR is still offering and using a profile for it.

C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0 C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0
C:\Users\all users\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0 C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0
C:\Program Data\Adobe\Camera Raw\Lens Profiles\1.0
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.2\Resources\LensProfiles\1.0

Where is LR finding it ?
