More colours...
« on: October 15, 2012, 11:24:07 pm »

Is it my imagination, or is this autumn more colorful than most?
Thanks for looking.

Not in England, Scott - well not in my particular little bit of it anyway, it's been dull and rainy here for weeks.  I Like the second of these, unusual perspective - one we see lots but don't usually photograph, nice.

Same here in Switzerland, no better colors than usual…

My favourite is #2, I like the juxtaposition of the fall colors and the blue/green colors of the water below.

Thanks, Dewi and Francois.
#2 is Crawford Lake, which might be familiar to Toronto-area members. I was impressed by the clear water and colours in this deep little limestone lake, lots of potential.

Wrong side of Canada for me, Scott. My daughter lives over in Vancouver, where we've vistied several times but I've never been to the eastern side, although I would love to do a road trip there someday.

I like how you have isolated the color and simplified your subject.  For example, I have also enjoyed seeing a single bright orange-leaved aspen tree in an evergreen forest.

Yes, I know where Crawford lake is. Do you think the colours are still good there? I was in the Haliburtons and Algonquin and have been going for years, so I agree the colours are the best I can recall. Apparently you need cool nights, which we haven't been getting for some years. I like No 2. Rockwood was also very nice this year.

Good! I thought so too, though I haven't seen an Ontario fall for a long time.
The Crawford L picture is from Oct 4, so, who knows how it is now.
Thanks for your comments, John and Rambler.

As I went to write this comment I was going to agree with francois, but then I had another look and I actually really like how flat #1 looks against the rock. Its as though it completely removes any sense of depth in the entire image, and I'm actually surprised at myself for really liking it.

Having said that, I think I would recommend a slight change to the composition of the shot: if you could have a got a bit more of the foliage out to the left and slightly less of the 'dead-space' rock on the right I think the curves from the orange (which would be slightly to the right) and the green foliage (to the left) would frame it the flat-look rather well.

Thanks for your suggestion, James. Too late to reshoot, but it's never too late to crop out a bit off the right.
