Decaying Home in Black and White
« on: October 08, 2012, 12:21:50 pm »

Found this home in the rural midwest, I can only imagine how beautiful this home was at one time, but it is sadly fallen to decay.

Welcome, Robb. I like the shot. This kind of thing is one of my favorite subjects. But I have two beefs: (1) The house sort of gets lost because of its subdued tonality against that overworked sky. The mid tones need to come up some. I'd have done something with the sky, but I'd have needed the original color version to do it right. (2) It's all a bit soft -- maybe a cellphone shot?

Thank you for the critique. I'm not sure if it re-sized on the photo host or what, but it does appear somewhat out of focus. It was taken with a D90 with a 18-105mm lens. I've been trying to come up with ideas to make the house stand out a bit more, but I think it goes well blending into the clouds (nature), as the house is slowly succumbing to the effects of nature.
