Lightroom 4.2 seems much snappier
« on: October 04, 2012, 06:44:57 am »

Just a first impression.
Yet to do much serious work with this new version.

+1, I had to do a couple of quick things yesterday after the download and that was my experience.  I even took an old image that was processed in the old LR engine and it loaded quickly and the changes were preserved quite nicely.  Kudos to the LR team for keeping on top of things.

Do you find LR 4.2 snappier than LR 4.2RC or snappier than version 4.1?

It's always difficult to precisely measure where and when there's a performance improvement.
FWIW, with Lightroom 4.2 I can safely recommend it to anyone, where with 4.0 and partially 4.1 I would have advised to try the trial first.

Yep, it's really hard to judge "snappiness" accurately but I found that going from 4.1 to 4.2RC did improve UI responsiveness. Updating from RC to the release version of Lightroom 4.2 did bring no seat-of-the-pant speed.

Me too.  4.2 is noticeably better than the RC version.   Especially moving from module to module, zooming in and out, etc.  Sliders can still lag a bit but are not as notchy.  Clone tool is still painfully slow if I need to reposition the source circle.

Overall a great improvement.  Kudos LR team!
