Fun Stuff
« on: September 30, 2012, 08:34:28 am »

In my daily travels about my little burg, I discovered this "image"  in plain sight and thought how much we can challenge our sense of perception merely in how we point the camera. It's not too abstract so that it baffles the viewer, but I think it is a good example of the power of the lens in its simplist form.

I like it, but I am not having fun yet.  The piling baffled me; that was fun for a little while.  More importantly without reflections it doesn't share the same light as the boats.  I would try brighting the piling and if possible its reflection.  I think the image will still have mystery with the piling better integrated.

Now, that is funny  ;D as I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to darken the piling because I thought it brighter was too much a giveaway to the subject...hmmmmmm, I still have the PSD and can go back to that point and see what can be done. See, there was fun and you didn't even know it.

To Darken or not to darken. That is the question.

To darken, maybe?

Just for Esses and Giggles, I went back to the break point in my editing and followed Bruce's suggestions..well, at least as much as I thought my brain could handle. I think I have to agree with the suggestion of opening up the shadow of the pole a bit, but couldn't go too bright with the piling itself.

It is much more opened in photoshop but it always is, isn't it?

This is another in a series of works I'm doing in the Perception of One's Own Reality. It was shot not far from the other but in this image, I liked how the bubbles added a second dimension and "rebreaking" the depth of the first reflected depth. The series is a work in progress, but one I am really getting into of late.

Though I like the greater integration of the second version, as well as the bubbles in the second image, the boats seemed to change as much as the piling.  It may not work to brighten just piling and not the boats, but that is what I had in mind earlier.  Attached is the first version with less unreflected creosote.
