Frustrations with CS 6
« on: September 29, 2012, 08:12:53 pm »

Any idea why CS 6 regularly "forgets" my preference settings-particularly painful are my my Auto Save preferences? This happens with all my pref settings-never all at the same time-but things like my history states, location of my scratch disk. This happens even when the program doesn't crash -which happens off and on-but always when it does crash. So the only thing I can rely on is to manually save-which I don't always remember. Windows 7, 24 GB Ram, 6 core always runs at 100% efficiency.

Also I have noticed that Auto Save Recovery only works with computer power interruptions but not when CS 6 itself crashes.... frustrating to say the least when it both crashes and has forgotten my auto save settings.

Kirk,

Does this happen with any other software ?
Any application crash log generated by PS ?
Any particular file size in PS ?
Could be a driver issue or a hardware issue - like memory, disk, or temperature.
Just some ideas.

Thanks, but no everything else including LR and Premiere are very stable. File sizes all are native 5DMII.

Crashes always appear when grabbing some tool like Patch Tool.

No crash log. Just PS has encountered a problem and needs to shut down.

I just updated my graphics driver-lets see if that makes a difference.

You might want to try re-installing first. If you know how, you might want to clean the registries as well.

I've been extremely frustrated with CS 6, and as I'm writing this post, I can't explain why I haven't downgraded.  Otherwise a perfectly stable system, I have random crashes and forgotten preferences like you do.  I've seen a ton of other people complaining about random crashes, and we haven't seen a fix yet.  The thing that causes it most for me is going into any of the preference dialogs after it's been open for a while, but it certainly happens in other random places.

No crashes yet today. I should have had one by now. Maybe updating the graphics driver was the problem?

Let's hope so. Good luck!

No crashes since updating my video card driver!

What video card do you have & what video card driver version?  I have an nVidia GeForce GT 240, and I'm on driver 301.42, which I could have sworn was the most recent when I re-installed my system upon purchasing a SSD drive four weeks ago.  I see 306.23 is available, which I'll be upgrading to as soon as I have enough stuff closed down so I can reboot... Have a lot of windows open atm.

I have a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 295 with version 9.18.13.593 releases 8/18/2012.

Still no crashes since updating the driver.
