HDR and ND filters
« on: September 28, 2012, 01:48:27 pm »

Another HDR related question.  Going to Nantucket and want to get that calm look on the beach where the water looks peaceful so I bought a 10 stop ND filter.  Can this be used with a reasonable outcome using HDR methodology?

There is no correlation between ND filters and HDR images.  A 10-stop ND filter will let you use exposures roughly 1000 times longer than normal, but will not affect dynamic range.  If the dynamic range of the scene is excessive (with or without ND filter), then you can use HDR techniques to capture and later compress that range.
