Felt the end of summer and the start of autumn these past few days - had no ADSL recently because I've been changing telephone contracts and nothing is easy. How we come to depend on the Internet; I felt quite anxious over the weekend and right up to today, when the final changes seem to have been completed... must be an addiction.

Anyway, the people are mostly gone, now, and the few businesses still open aren't doing much of anything.

Hey, that's a cool piece of colour drama! I like it a lot.

Yeah it was a big rolling front coming in, we got inside just in time!  Here's another, looking to the right of the pier:

Yes, it's powerful. I wonder, unless you meant it, why there's so much grain; it happens to me at times too, with cellpix, and I've no idea why. Ironically, when I want that on RAW derived images, it's quite a hassle to get there!

Been a while since anyone posted here... thought it deserved some love.  All made with a Samsung Galaxy S and pushed around a bit in LR 5 Beta.

The first two images are from Ross Bay Cemetery, the third and the fourth from the same spring storm.

1) Water Dish
2) Few Hits, Many Misses
3) Breezy
4) Do You Think the Rain Understands?

Three images from the Oak Bay Native Plant Garden.  The first two are white fawn lily and the third is western trillium.

Mike!

I'd forgotten all about this thread - now that I've been reminded it may push me to doing something new with the cellphone. About time, too, because I feel I'm getting more and more lazy.

Thanks for the shot in the arm and the interesting pix you posted.

Rob, you started with chicks. A classic subject for cell-phone-art: "Everybody neat and pretty? Then on with the show..."

Yes, I'd forgotten that; must have Georgia on my mind instead. Maybe I'll take up travel, then.

;-)

P.S. Some tan your pair of chicks has! Great skin tones.

Excellent, Patricia!

At last we're (your shot) getting towards where 50s photography got me turned so far on that I could never jump off the habit again.

Absolutely love it.

Karsh would be proud, Patricia!  If he had a cell phone, that is.

Karsh...

Mike.

That you would have that fleeting association Mike, has been the catalyst to putting together some of what remains  to briefly fluoresce in my decay. At about the same time that Minor White became a powerful force for me, some of the Karsh work almost seemed to emanate from a place that felt the polar opposite, but drew me in just the same. It is only now, with your reference, and far removed from that time and its complicating layers that I reached this morning the realization of what it is...

It is the work he did where touch was the eye, touch the sensibility...the unrevealed sensory truth that he with great intensity exquisitely modulated as something of the spirit of the sitter made the journey to the portrait. I do not feel this with his entire work, but powerfully when the sitter is a sculptor or a painter or a thinker...those who still know the primeval feel of dirt on the hands. (I even have come to see how the Hepburn portraits gather their power in this way, this connection...she was always proud to have dirt under her nails....that is powerful. Karsh found the way to "touch" that and authenticate that brilliant fluorescence)

The Giacomo Manzu and Einstein portraits also have that power for me... and yet I had never understood the association between Minor and Karsh until now. That magnificent ability to escape the surfaces and reveal the unseen. Increasingly rarefied today.

Oh Patricia, why Karsh? Of them all, he disappointed me the most. I never found a female portrait of his that - in my mind - worked. His Bardot is a special disillusion... she could have been a man, for all the differences he found.

Whenever I think of him I think camera club, and ultra-crisp images of fake sailors in cable-stitch sweaters, smoking pipes, and lit by a zillion different spots.

Maybe I remember too much.
