I picked this up off of photoscala.de mixed items report from Photokina and thought it might be of interest to some of you.
http://www.rencay.de/en/rencay/startpage.html

They are offering a 4x5 mount scan back with 70mm x 120mm capture area that can do 312mp scans in 26seconds and 1248mp scans in about 2mins. These backs can do lower res scans even faster.

I'm not sure how they are working out their megapixels, for some reason they are multiplying by 3.

That's true, but every pixel site is getting an R,G,B value, so you're getting 1/3 the stated rez for every color channel

Kinda like how sigma rates their megapixels ;)

I think they are using Foveon-style reasoning: since each image point is separately scanned in R,G,B, there is no Bayer interpolation.

As with Foveon, the reasoning for such a 3x factor is still somewhat dubious.

Yeah, but a true color non interpolated 8000x13000 image in 26 seconds is not too shabby.  Most of the scan backs also have better DR than bayer type chips as well.  I think the kodak linear CCD's have a quoted snr of 82-84 db where as typical CCD sensors now have something like 70db.  The old 9um senors had 73db.

Take a look at the samples in the DP2 merrill thread and see if they don't punch above bayer files with the same resolution.  I think the same of the files from the multishot backs.
