Press Release - September 14th 2012

Hasselblad has announced a new Adobe® Lightroom® 4 tethering solution for its H4D medium format camera system.

The plug-in, which is available from today, follows the company’s groundbreaking initiative with Adobe earlier this year, to bundle Lightroom software with all new Hasselblad cameras.

Peter Stig-Nielsen, Hasselblad’s Director of Professional Camera Products said: “This new plug-in for Lightroom 4 enables highly efficient tethered shooting capability and makes the Hasselblad and Lightroom combination the perfect choice for photographers adding a Hasselblad to their DSLR. Photographers will now have full camera control with capture options from both Lightroom 4 and their H4D, including full remote camera control and capture from Phocus Mobile 2.0 through iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.”

The plug-in is available for both Mac and PC at: www.hasselblad.com/service--support/technical-support/software-downloads

This is quite interesting and a very smart move. Rental houses will be very happy about this one... making it so much easier for a crew used to using a DSLR setup to keep tethering the same.

Will the photographer be able to shoot from the camera while the assistant makes setting changes on the computer?

Or does tethering "take over the camera"?

Would be really nice if it could be wireless. Jpeg over wireless and Raw to Card.

Something along the lines of the new D600 wireless.

"This plugin will work with the Mac version of Lightroom 4. It supports tethered control of
all Hasselblad camera models - be aware though that currently Lightroom does not
support multi shot images. Also currently Ixpress 3F files are not supported by Lightroom

so even though the plugin will actually recognize and control a connected Ixpress camera
you will not be able to work with captured Ixpress files in Lightroom."

DF, just to clarify the plugin is available for Mac and PC. I know that you were using a quote and they were not your own words, no criticism implied.  ;D

Do the images show up in LR just as quickly as in Phocus when shooting tethered?

I have found lightroom to be slow and unreliable when shooting thethered with the 5d mkII. I'm expecting the plugin to boost speed and be rock solid or won't be usable.

Will this be extended to H3 series cameras?

Will it be extended to multi-shot?

DF,

That's excellent news! I'm guessing, that no multi-shot though?

Thanks.

Side topic, but are people finding LR4 or Phocus to do better RAW conversions?  I still think Phocus does better.  It's a bummer since I still need flexcolor to shoot Microstep, Phocus to process and do multishot, and then LR4 to catalog.   My leaf back isn't much better since I use C1 to process and could catalog in LR4 if I wanted to run the files through the LR converter but then I can't apply an LCC.     Actually come to think of it, does lightroom do DAC or LCC?     If you tether to lightroom can you still go back to phocus and do the DAC and LCC stuff later?

This is a nice development. Multi-shot in addition would be even nicer! ;)

But, (off topic, I admit)  connectivity is a big issue. If Apple pull the plug on FireWire, Hasselblad have a big problem.

How the H5 connects will be very interesting.
