Showcase of Landscape photos taken with MFDB?
« on: September 07, 2012, 08:12:03 am »

Hi, I'm wondering if the forum members here would show me your Landscape photos that you've taken with an MFDB. Criteria:

- No 35mm please - I've seen some great ones from canikon on flickr
- Not just a test/casual shot, but show us some of your best shots that you personally love / feel proud of.
- Please include info about which back and details of camera+lens used. It would even be better if you can tell us the F stop and how much tilt, if any was used.
- Any further comments about the photo, stories, etc. e.g. did you encounter any difficulties when taking it e.g. snow, salt, water spray, wind, rain, below freezing, long hikes, etc.

Thanks!

I don't use a back...but I use a Pentax 645D.

Here are some of my favorite shots:
Yosemite shot (typical Yosemite shot)

... Texas Bluebonnet sunset shot...

One would expect that a medium format, with its unquestionable gazillion f-stops dynamic range advantage, wouldn't have those blown highlights? ;)

99% of the photographs on my site is MF, everything from 2007 till now is MFDB (22MP on Rollei camera).
Don't know though if it helps you to get an idea of MF landscape. It is in the photographer's eye, not in the equipment...

I appreciate the comment. Although I find it a little uncalled for. Yes parts of the sky maybe overexposed....but I am sure I could recover in lightroom.  I posted that picture fairly quickly on flickr for some friends that wanted to see what that area in Texas looked like. I spent 3 straight nights in that location (1 hr drive for me) waiting for a good shot. I got what I thought was a decent shot but still left disappointed. The week we had the bluebonnet peak was one that had cloudless skies :(

I posted a shot that I enjoyed taking and viewing. I personally was proud of the shot because of the hours I spent waiting multiple nights to get it. The Yosemite shot I posted is another favorite. Yes that shot can be seen from thousands of others, but I thought it would give the Thread starter a good idea of the look of medium format.

These were made using Mamiya ZD camera

(Edit: they seem resized in the forum window - right-click select View Image to see larger size)

Check out the works of swedish nature photographer Hans Strand. He uses hasselblad equipment (but more and more the d800e nowadays).

And Peter Lik uses mediumformat with Both technical cameras and P1 645 systems

Thank you guys. These images were made using ACR a few years ago. All lens cast corrections had to be made by hand. Now with RawTherapee's flat field correction it is automatic to get the clean results. The first 4 images were shot with 55mm AF 2.8 lens. It is -extremely- sharp on ZD, nice for landscapes, but causes lots of moire in fine details.

These were all taken with my PhaseOne 645DF and IQ 140 digital system in Ireland while shooting for about 3 days.

The self-portrait with the said camera, was taken with my Nikon D700.

Feel free to comment on the blog post and I will always respond as quickly as I can.

Good luck!
