Photoshop CS6: Saving Tiffs
« on: September 05, 2012, 09:32:21 pm »

I'm running CS6 on a Win7 64-bit machine.  When I save a file as a Tiff, the Save As dialog box comes up with Byte Order: Macintosh checked, rather than Byte Order IBM PC.  Is there any way to set IBM PC as the default?

No need.  Byte ordering was historically different in the IBM vs Apple worlds, but all imaging software made even since quite a while ago is able to read both, and the headers in the TIFF file say which ordering is used.  Unless you use an archaic program, or something extremely specialized, you can use either and it truly makes no difference.  I just save without even looking at which option it's defaulted to.  I'm sure from receiving many photo files from customers, I probably have quite a few of each in my system.

Thanks.  So I won't worry about it.

Just be aware you may have issues printing on a Chromajet if the files are not IBM PC. I recently tried that without realizing I had inadvertently saved the TIFFs in Macintosh and the printer would not accept them until they were re-saved as IBM. If that is not anticipated then no worries.
