Ladybower Reservoir from Bamford Edge, The Peak District

That was why I asked. I've only been there once and couldn't figure out the reservoir's normal level. I'll wimp out of abseiling though.

'Normal' level kind of depends on time of year. So you may see the remains of old villages in a dry Summer and the overflows working in Winter.
Though most of the time water is a bit below the 'high water mark' where the vegetation starts.

Yes, it looked like a location for a wet winter or for a year like 2012, but when I saw it this July the vegetation started a long way down and was well-grown.

Next time I'm out there, I'll try and remember to have a look and let you know what  the level is like.

Thanks for the comments - think I've toned down those 'nuclear greens' since this original post!

Always wondered about that plug-hole since I saw it - haven't been back since to see it with a different water level. Certainly wouldn't want to get sucked through that, although could imagine it being an exciting ride for an adrenaline junky!

I've an idea that one of those plug holes would look great as a long exposure. No doubt it's been done before, but my 10 stop ND is a "Big Stopper", which seems quite an appropriate name for the subject!

Indeed. I wonder whether you'd notice a corkscrew effect like a normal plug?

I'd take care of that big stopper though - if you had to wait as long for your order as I did, then you wouldn't want to go losing it down there!

The structure is much too big for a corkscrew but it looks "stepped" on the inside, so my guess is that it would be more like a series of concentric waterfalls.

I waited 8-9 months for my filter,  so I wasn't thinking of getting that close - more of finding a high angle.

Goodness me, this brings back memories, this was my old stomping ground, I have driven and walked all around this area hundreds of times.

I am sure you must already know this, but if you go down over the Ladybower bridge and turn right and drive all the way down to the Fairholmes car park, go to the wooden food hut and order yourself a bacon butty, because they do one of the best bacon sandwiches I have ever had, we always used to go there for a bacon butty.
