Lee Filters - how long do they last?

Does anyone know how long the effective light stop rating for a ND lee Filter will last? I assume they must degrade over time?

If you protect them when not in use they answer is a very, very long time. If you leave them exposed on your dashboard in full sun probably only a few months.
