The current CaptureShop 6.1 software is stable with Sinar M and Sinar 54H.
An old release of CaptureShop software had stability issues with FireWire connection and crashed Mac OS. (Approx 2009, Contax 645 with Sinar M, not H).

A short 90cm long cable with metal ends works fine with H4D-40.
Although my H4D-40 has latest firmware, FireWire connection is not stable using the standard 4 meters long cable supplied by Hasselblad.
I recently bought FireWire repeater and Tether Tools JerkStopper Tethering Kit to see if it can help.
Anyway, I believe it is a Phocus software issue, not in the camera.

Thank you for help.
Can I ask how long cables you use with the 54H?
I have never thought that it could matter, but last time I used a 10 meter firewire cable,
and I had problems.

The FireWire port should support cables up to 4.5 meters long. Over that length you should use a repeater.

I did some experimentation today with the 54H directly on the P3 with LC shutter.
I used captureshop 6.1 and my mac runs on OS 10.6.8.
I used power directly to the back in addition to the firewire.
The cable I use is an 400-800 firewire cable.

The machine had problems to find the back. Sometimes it was ok, but after just one 16-shot exposure series
the whole thing stopped. After this it all was messed up.

Any idea what could be wrong?

I am also very interested to know this. I have been shooting on the 54H for a few years now and its time to upgrade the imac or shoot to laptop which has the new firewire ports yet my 54H has the old? So what to do. Is it possible to use a conversion cable? Firewire like the one listed in the image here. https://digitaltransitions.com/blog/dt-blog/phase-onemamiya-leaf-vs-third-party-firewire-cables

Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

Still awaiting any response! It would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there are any experienced jewelry photographers out there, what lens do you use predominantly.

The best is to buy a firewire 400 card an put insidethe Mac. That is 100% stable.
There are also adapters you canput on the cable.

Thanks Hendrik, its an Imac so no option for a card as far as i am aware, but thanks for the info about the adapter idea. Thats what i was asking and added the link to. I was just worried about maybe shorting something electrical. At least i know my trusty DB can carry on through the ages.
