Color calibration issues
« on: July 22, 2012, 10:25:46 pm »

I decided it was time to upgrade my monitor to a wide gamut model, and based upon comments on this forum from Andrew and others--and a really good price since I'm cheap--I purchased a NEC P221W. I figure that the price may have been low because this model is due for a refresh. And it was big enough and good enough for my needs.

However, when it came time to load the SpectraView II (tm) software, it just wouldn't seem to install. I don't know why.

 ;D

(Somebody was a little careless packing the box, but fortunately NEC has the software on their web site and the "activation" code was readable.)

Yowza, that is a bid ridiculous of them to have shipped a product with packing that caused/allowed the CD to get warped like that.

In the distant past, I used to flatten lp records by placing them between two plates of heavy glass followed by heating in the oven.  Don't know if this would work with compact discs.  The layers might separate.  Maybe just heating them in sunlight, of which there is too damn much where I live.

Thankfully he doesn't need to worry about fixing this disc. The version on disc is nearly always older than the one on the website so why even bother.

That looks like more than bad packaging to me. It looks like it was exposed to heat high enough to warp it. If so, if it happened after it was packaged I'd be concerned that the colorimeter might have sustained damage to its internal components.
