Wild flowers - just a taster from Snizort
« on: July 18, 2012, 05:02:13 am »

The wild flowers are beginning to show nicely now across the island and the heather is also just coming into full bloom, which should add even more colour across the landscape, so I can only assume it will get even better over the next few weeks.

This shot was taken directly from the side of the road at a place called 'Snizort' towards the northern end of the island - what a great name that is, it sounds like something from a Harry Potter movie  :)

:) I am becoming increasingly annoyed with these beautiful scenes you seem to happen upon daily. Stop making me jealous.  ;D

Snizort, huh?  Lovely name, really!  And definitely a beautiful location...

Very nice, Dave. How long does summer last at Snizort? The countryside reminds me of northern Montana where you need a pretty fast shutter speed to catch summer.

Thanks all,

I went back the other day for another go at the same shot, I was hoping for a bit less breeze and a bit more blue in the sky, which I sort of managed to get, but still not perfect - I think more visits to this spot may be needed.

High Russ,

I think we have a few more weeks yet and hopefully the heather will get going even more before the wild flowers begin to die away.

Snizort is next to Loch Snizort and is a very small village on the IoS. I was driving around aimlessly admiring/gawping at the wild flowers and looking for a possible shot, but I couldn't find a composition, then a motor home appeared up my backside and as there is no where to safely overtake on this and many other roads on the island, I pulled down into the first small side road I came to, simply to get out of his way. I intended to turn around and then continue with my gawping and realised I had accidentally stumbled on what I was looking for.

Extraordinary!!!   You set a high bar

David

Thanks David, that is very kind indeed.

I feel like I want to skip through the meadow. I also wish we could transmit fragrance through the internet because i would love to smell and discern whether the pollen is sweet...or honey like... or ??? . I would also love to hear the sound of the bees on an early morning. Hmmm wished I was there.
