Black Diamond Canvas - What media type on Epson?
« on: July 09, 2012, 09:59:38 pm »

What media type should be used for Black Diamond Canvas on an Epson 9900?  Canvas?  Watercolor Paper Radiant White?  Something else?  I guess I'm spoiled from Breathing Color's detailed information about their products.

Yeah.  Watercolor Radiant is what I used when I had a profile made.

Darlin, what did you pay for that canvas ?  I also use BC's Lyve.  Let me know what the difference is as far as quality and print quality is.  Thanks

Don't have the exact price I paid, but 24x40 roll is around $162, and 44x40 roll is around $268.  I wound up purchasing from John at Shades of Paper.  (Just mentioning because I've been thrilled with his service.)  It seems like all IJ Technologies (Black Diamond manufacturer) resellers have IJ drop ship, so it seems like where you order from won't affect delivery time.

I needed to find a canvas for printing very dark and saturated reds.  The Black Diamond Canvas Satin does a way better job in this area than the Lyve.  The biggest reason is the satin base vs Lyve's matte base.  I haven't used Crystalline myself, but based on the ICC profiles, Crystalline may have an even wider color gamut than Black Diamond.

As far as my original question, I wound up using the canvas setting over Watercolor Radiant White.  IJ Technologies also recommended Watercolor Radiant White, but in some ink density print tests, I found an unacceptable (to me) loss of detail due to oversaturation that I didn't find using the canvas media type.

Black Diamond seems like it really doesn't want to stretch, compared to Lyve.
