Fabric collage/Cloth/metal/paper mixed media material art - help

I know I am doing something wrong.  but

This week three paintings various mediums   artist loved the 98% match that I try to achieve when printing images out for them.  Ie original painting, screen match what I Print.

then!!!!!

four fabric material collage images .   using same techniques, white balance tools, profiles etc..  cannot get it right.  used camera, colour profiles  even tried to scan it in same issue too much magenta (I think) over all.  screen not right print not right..

any suggestions for how to capture the images like needle/material art work.

I have done collages, etc  no problems....  

just finished a painting in 30 minutes..  easy....   but ..  looking for suggestions ideas...


I know I am lacking i knowledge in this area......

You'll have to use selective color edits in Photoshop.

Or try shooting under a different light source like real daylight.

I've run into this with polyknit fabric that wouldn't register accurately with my camera under any light source.

Sometimes I could fix it in ACR reducing contrast, adjusting combinations of WB, hue and saturation and adding a bit of split tone before just giving up and using Selective Color in Photoshop.

Digital sensors can't see/record all possible colors from various light sources like our eyes can. It's just the nature of things.

thank you for reply..    this is what I was concerned about.    thought I might be off base..   altogether   

tried indoor special lighting,  outside overcast, Sunlight and a scanner     all the same results......

First thing I'd do is make sure that your exposure (via camera back histogram) more exactly matches what you get with your painting shots. Lots of different light absorption between painted canvas and fabric and different reflective values. I use my camera's histogram reading all the time to make sure I'm seeing a realistic capture as seen by the sensor. Lots of folks on this forum are far more expert in this topic than I am but when I was shooting for artist prints any time my exposure was off even a little bit I was always wasting time fiddling with color correction variations incurred with exposure tweaks in PS.
I'm including the white point/ exposure target that keeps me on track with my histogram on my camera back.

I do a lot of copying work. Usually copying old paintings, photographs and documents and then making duplicate prints on my Epson 9900 printer. I have never faced this particular issue yet.

You mentioned a magenta color cast in your prints. If this cast is showing on your screen also, then I think one cause of this could be a mismatch in the color temperature of the lighting source and the color temperature set in your raw conversion software.

This can be easily checked by shooting a grey card in the same light and then seeing the color temperature in the raw conversion software by clicking on the grey card.

Thanks.   Have used three white balance tools just to make sure...

data color cube,   color checker passport and a standard grey card.

all the same.   did a check with the saturation slider and found that there is a lot of magenta in the fabrics showing up at the high end....
