searching for the best viewfinder app for the iPhone
« on: June 30, 2012, 07:48:18 am »

I'm looking for an viewfinder app for my iPhone. Which one are you using?

I want wide-angle capabilities and the possibility to dial in various film formats and digital aspect ratios?

Which one to buy?

Thanks in advance,

Heinrich

You could try the Alpa eFinder.   It has a wide angle mode if you have a wide angle lens for your iPhone.  I don't have one, so not sure how well that works.

Not sure what you mean.  The iPhone 4 has a 35mm equivalent focal length of about 30mm.  A viewfinder app is not going to get wider than the iPhone can see.  If you want to go wider than 30mm equivalent (~68 degrees, I think), then you have to have a wide angle attachment.

I think alpa's program is based on viewfinder pro.  It's the app I use.  You can add a wide angle adaptor to the phone and the app can compensate based on it's focal length so you can get it to show wider lenses than the standard iPhone camera will show.

I've used it for sometime and it's pretty well done.   A little pricey for an app, but it handles four camera systems and most of the available systems are in there.
