Canvas Corner Cutting to remove bulk
« on: June 21, 2012, 06:06:05 pm »

Does anybody have any good links that show precisely where to cut on gallerie wrap canvasses to remove bulk from the corners?
On "From Camera to Print To Screen"  The canvas guy up in canada does it, but the camera angle completely misses what he is doing.
In the original "From Camera To Print" the camera angle was much better, but I am not able to download the video any more, even though I purchased it and thought it would remain available for download.

Thanks,
JP

Using a piece of scrap canvas make a corner without any attempt at cutting.  Spray the wrapped corner some solid color.  Unwrap.  The parts that aren't sprayed are the parts you can cut out for the particular wrapping technique you are using.  This can help you select the most optimum wrapping technique for cutting.

Back when I was learning to wrap there were a few useful videos on the 'tube.  Sorry, I don't have them bookmarked.

FWIW highly flexible, thin canvas like Fredrix 777 maks it easier to get flat looking, cutless corners than many of the currently popular thick ones.

At around 4:18 this bloke shows you how to make a pretty decent, uncut corner, but I think he's using rather thin canvas.

The non-cutting technique video on this page is quit well done:

This seems to work well as long as you have an even about of canvas.

I have also used this cutting technique:

But I prefer not to cut the corners myself.

Breathing Color has a good video on their web site. It's specifically aimed at their own gallery wrap system, but I believe the cutting would apply to more traditional all-staple techniques.

Simplify, I also saw the video your talking about and was unable to grasp exactly what he was doing as well.  I've figured it out on how to cut to leave hardly any bump if anything at all.  Message me if you'd like me to record a video showing you how I do it.
