macbook pro_ lightroom 4
« on: June 20, 2012, 05:59:13 pm »

Hi,
I'm not quite sure why I can't install lightroom 4 on my older; macbook pro 2 Ghz intel core duo, 2gb ram, OS 10.6.8 ? I can load the program but when I go to open it...... " Lightroom 4 is not supported on this type of mac"

I do my main processing on an i-mac OS 10.6.8 + (lightroom 4) and use the macbook pro as a print server with lightroom 3.

+  by using lightroom 3 as a print server am I degrading the image in any way?

any suggestions

thanks
Larry.

LR 4 is a 64 bit ONLY program.  You are 32.

LR 4 is a 64 bit ONLY program.  You are 32.

It's possible to read this unhelpful reply as indicating that you can't run LR on your Mac, and that's not true; I have it running perfectly happily under 10.6.8 on a 6-year-old MacBook Pro.

32/64 bit mode might be an issue, or there might be something else. You're rather short of RAM, certainly, but that'll be a performance issue and isn't the main problem.

Can you post a system profile, perhaps (Apple / About this Mac / More info...)?

Learn to read jeremy. Lr4 has no 32 bit. He has a 32 bit CPU. Pretty simple.

If you in fact have a machine that has a Core Duo (NOT a Core 2 Duo), then you're stuck because the Core Duo is a 32 bit processor and LR4 is only built as 64 bit.

macbook pro 1,1
intel core duo =32bit?
2 GHz
2 GB memory
OSX  10.6.8

but by using it as a print server,  and using lightroom 3's output sharpening,  any problems with that or should I be using photoshop 5.
thanks
Larry.
