Advice on Hasselblad H
« on: June 07, 2012, 01:51:32 am »

Hello all I currently own a Hasselblad 500c with an 80mm lens, which I use to produce most of my personal work, however I recently had the chance to put my hands in to an H1 and the viewfinder was FANTASTIC!. Its bright, big and sharp, I fell in love with it. So I have been looking at the possibility to get an H system. I have read that the H1 H2 H2f can handle both film and digital backs (I love BW film), so I'm trying to decide which system would be a better investment. It seems like the H2f would be a good candidate for a future digital back ,since I can only afford a basic kit at the moment. But I have't seen many h2f systems for sale in the second hand market. Would 3800 get me an h2f kit with an 80mm lens ? Or am I day dreaming ?

Any advice would be appreciated !

It should do, but the H2f is hard to find and when you do they are expensive (relatively). I think it's something to do with lens corrections.
You can still put a film back on a H3D just not in the H3DII (That's a closed system which you cannot change backs on).

I have seen the h3dII-31 go for $6600 on ebay with the 80mm lens, this might be better than jumping into a h2f for $3800.  I have owned many H series hasselblads (22, 31, 39, and 50s) and the 31 works the best for me.  The 31 is fast, reliable, versatile and a great value for $.  I personally prefer the 1.3 crop sensor units due to the native 100 iso vs the native 50 iso on the 1.1 crop sensor units.  Also, it seems like the shadows have less color noise in the 31 vs the 50 but it's hidden in the resolution quite well.   My 2 cents: The H3DII-31 is a great tool that seems undervalued in the current market.  90% of my commercial work is done on this camera.  The 3K you save right now will be spend in film anyways if you jump on the h2f.

Hi Paber, i'm changing to H3DII, so i'm selling my H3D-39 (body only). You can still put a film back on that camera (and no more film back on the H3DII).
PM me if you want.  :)

Hasselblad UK had some ex demos H3dII-39's for sale last week at £2999 and £3999 respectively.

Be careful what you pay. Medium Format prices are all over the place and completely unstable right now.

Wow! 2999 its an amazing prize! A local dealer is selling me a used H3DII-39 for 8500 dollars! I would definitely look in to that. I don't want to over spend.

Yeah, it was a decent price. Just remember when buying something. Just because something is listed at a price doesn't mean it will sell.

For example, I've seen a few people list P45+ backs for the Hasselblad at around £7500, which is rediculous tbh. Especially considering at auction they aren't making anywhere near that:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330734219929?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

A P45+ back, with H1 body, with 50-110 lens and a 30 day warranty made only £7250

Then there's a P25 back:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120923387223?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Buy it now was £3225 but didn't catch a bid at £2225.

I've bought and sold stuff for years, all sorts of things but I've never seen so many hopeful prices as I have in the world of Medium Format!  ;D

Its not hopeful prices. Its attempts to ripoff the buyer legally.
I see it all the time on eBay.

buyer beware.

Yeah that is what I have been noticing, it is like real state ! In any case, I think an H2 will be a good choice, I really can't find any H2f's anywhere other than this one on ebay, but I find it really expensive.

i decided to buy a new H4X (in germany EUR 3999, it works fine with my 6 year old sinar emotion75 back and HM film backs. even true focus works although i use the camera with a first generation prism i obtained together with a H1 body (all together around EUR 1200 on eBay) for the trade in you have to make.
