Agave - b/w
« on: June 04, 2012, 02:32:38 pm »

Does this work as a slightly abstract shot.. colour version is OK, but I think b/w makes this more interesting.

Interesting foto.
My sense of it is- maybe it would be more relatable by playing with focus and sharpness.
Plants in B&W are informative and compelling.
Keep going!

Thanks for commenting Dumainew,

the shot was kind of casual - it was not until I got home and work a bit with PP I found it interesting ... mostly on an abstract level.

I agree one could explore the theme more with depth of field, perspective etc. and probably end up with a more interesting result.

Plants in B&W are informative and compelling.
Agree - do you know the photographer Karl Blossfeldt? If not, google him and take a look.

Definitely some potential in the lines there.

I have a bunch of these, too.
I found the out of focus top to be distracting, so I tried a crop.

Thanks Mike and Scott,

Scott - I agree about the out of focus, but it was hand held @f/3.2 .. not much light and I didn't bring my tripod.
Regarding the crop you made - personally, I would prefer a square format and tried that, but I realize I cannot get rid of the oof issue then, so your crop is better at that point. Got to go back with my tripod some day and be a bit more serious.

Anyway, I tried the square - I did say abstract, so I tried a different approach to distract you from the oof.. I reversed it. Not quite there though..

I have a bunch of these, too.
Would be nice to see a few?

As an abstract, the second works much better IMHO.

Thanks John - yes, the expression is quite different.
