.NEF file converter options for Nikon d3200
« on: May 18, 2012, 06:42:40 pm »

I copied the first batch of .NEF files from the D3200 and, Oy Vey CS5 doesn’t know how to deal with the files ::)

A little light reading suggests that it isn’t likely Adobe will provide a Bridge converters for D3200 files for use with CS5 because they don't want to with CS6 so near. Sounds plausable. Another elbow in the eye ;) to "encourage" upgrading. Except - according to a some sources, CS6 doesn’t support the D3200……just yet …....and there's the kick in the shin :o

So it looks like we who bought the D3200 will need a converter of some type......for a while. Can anyone make a recommendation for suitable software? I’m going to miss using Bridge and ACR with NEF files as it plays such an integral role in processing of………everything….

And worst of all, i have these huge files sitting somewhere on the drive array and i want to see how tortured my computer systems will be when dealing with these files, a dozen at a time. :D

And on along the upgrade path we go.......

The new D3200 will prolly be supported in the final ACR 7.1 release (it's not yet in the beta as far as I can tell). But when Adobe releases the final ACR 7.1 they will also release the free DNG Converter 7.1 which presumably will support the new camera and convert the D3200 NEF file to DNG for Photoshop CS5/ACR 6.x support.

Not for nothing dooode, but just because you CAN add smilies, doesn't mean you should...and the attitude could use a bit of work–Adobe ceases supporting old versions of Photoshop when a new version ships. That's been the policy since, well, the beginning. So, your expectations that you deserve a Camera Raw upgrade to CS5 now that CS6 is shipping is unrealistic. You'll have to make do with the DNG Converter (which is free) once it gains support for your camera.

Justan,

Have you tried Nikon's Capture NX to open your NEFs? I believe Nikon has a free 30 day trial.

Good Luck,
