The effect is really nice with the light but I can't help but think that there should be more to this image.
BTW I fully appreciate that waterfowl do not just fly on cue just to give one a beautiful image, nonetheless I do feel there does need to be something in the background to complement the foreground action.
This would not necessarily need to be fully in focus (difficult with an effective focal length of 700 mm) but enough to bring context to the image.
You have a good eye and this was a good effort being a handheld shot.

I look forward to seeing more images as you post them.

Regards

MTGFender.

Having watched Vidal Sassoon's docu. on BBC 4 last night, the combination of Birds, Birds and Birds with what I misread as MGTF caused me quite some confused disappointment.

Anyway, the photograph is nice - I like those graphic and symbolic images more than most sorts; some great stuff in that mode used to exist within the pages of the Image Bank catalogues... sweet days. It's what I sometimes try to catch with my 500 mirror - not birds, but little boats or signs, flowers and stuff like that; anything that would look mundane as normal shots from normal lenses can often be quite surprising with oddball techniques.

Thank God for cameras and not having to paint that stuff from imagination! It would mostly remain blank canvas.

Thanks Rob and Tony!
It was an old day. This is a manual focus lens so I didn't have much time at all.

I like the light and the simple subject yet it's a scene where one can find variations in the profiles of the  repeating birds. Actually a shorter focal length and more birds would also have been nice.

Thanks Lars!
I  agree. If I had a 200-400mm VR at that time, it would be nice.

Its really a nice picture to me. Seems to be more
about flight, with anonymous  birds. A great "capture"
of the moment. Cool lighting and color! Might look
great in b/w too.
