Convert type 4 profiles to type 2?
« on: May 16, 2012, 12:52:26 am »

Having only a type 4 .icc profile, is there a (preferably free) way to convert it to a type 2 profile?

Am trying to do some profile comparisons on iccview.de, which only takes type 2's.

Windows Vista 64bit.

Or should I stop being so cheap and get a real program to do these kinds of comparisons?

Use ArgyllCMS. It's hard to learn how to cast shell spells at first - but then it does all the magic tricks you want.

Does ArgyllCMS convert ICC v4 profiles to v2? Or does it only manage to compare one to another?

The conversion, if it exists, would be useful for some Epson drivers also, as they only manage v2 profiles. Although ICC v4 produces better perceptual rendering intent prints, not all software does color management, relying in this case to the printer driver's ICM.

For instance, the Canson Baryta profile seems to be type 4.

I mean to use it for comparison, but I also suppose that v4 to v2 conversion is also doable with use of fakeread and colprof commands
