English Forest

Nikon D7000 & Nikkor 18-200. C&C much appreciated. This is the forest on the Stonor Estate near Henley-on-Thames, England. May seems to be the ideal time of year for exploring forests here because the forest floor has a thin green cover but the ferns are only just starting to sprout. A few weeks later the floor would be hidden by a thick layer of fern.

Commercial forest, full of alien species of pine. Not the best example of an English wood.

The woods locally here in Somerset are carpetted with bluebells & campion, a few primroses still hanging around. A mix of oak, ash, birch & the like, they're alive with butterflies & birds. Those pine forests are virtually dead underneath the canopy.
