Heading out of a photo trip, but don't have a D800....
« on: May 08, 2012, 12:05:55 am »

Am I just wasting my time? I mean, how can my sad little camera compete with 36 million pixels? That's a lot, ya know. So many, in fact, that even horrible photos will look amazing. I'm thinking I should just stay home and refrain from shooting any pictures until I can order a D800, or a D800e. Decisions, decisions. Sadly, though, none of my lenses are D800 (or D800e) worthy, so that makes my situation even worse. What to do?

Okay, that settles it. Instead of a photo trip, I'm going to sit on the computer and sell all my gear on eBay. At least then I won't be wasting my time with outdated and antiquated gear (24mp was so yesterday).

Wow, I feel better already.

Never mind them, you can easily spot 'em - the caps are a dead giveaway. More dangerous are those months of Sundays: can leave you with all manner of complexes - could even turn you into an ex-snapper if not careful.

But Chuck needn't give up hope: just have him buy a cellphone with one of those super built-in cameras and he can become one of those everywhere/all-the-time photographers who can even get pictures onto the Internet!!!

24 MP was yesterday? I'm still shooting 12 MP. What's more, I don't always use a tripod, and own no Zeiss lenses that need an adaptor to work on my Nikon. And I've not stitched multiple images to make a 100,000 MP image the size of a double-decker bus.

I'm not very good at this photography stuff :-[

Huh! Try a hiatus hernia and there's no dinner at all unless you favour nocturnal recycling as first hand experience. Lunches can be good, though.

You're kidding, Chuck, but over on nikonians.com they're not kidding. Over there equipment is everything, photographs are nothing.

Chuck,

I feel your pain! And you're absolutely right. You obviously don't have what it takes (equipment-wise). So while you're selling your gear on Ebay, why don't you just ship all of your no-longer-fashionable black-and-white prints to me. I'll be happy to take them off your hands for free. I'll even sign my own name to them, too, so you won't be embarrassed if you or any of your friends happen on them again.

It's really hard staying on top these days.    :(

Snap, 12 megapixel and a 1962 Takumer. Pathetic ain't it..

In my defense I have been known to stitch before. Can I be forgiven?

Since this is clearly Get it off your Conscience time, I shall fess up: as a child, I was known to have knitted. In my defence: badly! (It was also War 2, so what else was there to do other than watch the skies and listen to the hifi/stereo sound (great bass - shook the walls) of the 'planes coming in from foreign parts?)

In several world famous tourist sites like Taj Mahal, Grand Canyon, Yosemite they now limit the number of tourists by letting in only those carrying a Nikon D800 (one D800 for a family of 4). Having D800E gets you to the front of the line each morning.

I'm still shooting 12 MP.

I think that the D700 will make a GREAT door stop, especially with the equally useless 70-200 VR1 attached.

I tried to use it this past weekend ... and the lack of Moire was very disturbing ...

Someone stopped me in the park and asked if it was the D800 ... I said no, it is a D900 and they seemed satisfied with that.

If I had to follow the "latest and greatest is best and eveything else is ten million times worse than useless- therefore you are useless if you don't have the latest camera" mindset, I would have had to kill  myself at least every second Sunday. Now that I think about it, the same would apply for every third Wednesday too.

Why else did you imagine I blanked out the names on my two Digi Nikons? Don't believe me? Think I jest? Ask Christoph.

Canon helpfully puts the names of its cameras on the front of the camera itself, so when I forget, I can just look at the camera and find out.
My current big camera says "Canon EOS 5D Mark II" on the front. I was telling somebody that my pocket camera was a Canon S100, and then I looked at the front of it and it said "Canon S95." As Y B famously said, "You can observe a lot by looking."   :D

.. why don't you just ship all of your no-longer-fashionable black-and-white prints to me.

I couldn't do that. It would be deeply insulting to you. Some are <gasp> only 12mp.

Seriously, that short rant did me good. Got out some frustrations and, I hope, insulted a few members. It might actually do them good and, as everyone knows, I am all about doing good   ;D

I would try that same rant on the Nikonians site, Russ, but those boys ain't go no sense of humor. None.

As for the hiatus hernia interrupting Rob's dinner, that's rough. I'll bet if he were to lay his hands upon a D800, though, he would be cured. It's magical properties are endless.

I think you got that quote wrong, Chuck. Shouldn't it be:

I agree with that sentiment! They shipped me out for trying to liven the place up. Everything moderated to a state of boredom and banality. :(
